A large area was flooded by salt water overflowing the river embankment. The incident took place in the Govardhanpur area of ​​Patharpratima in South 24 Parganas district on Thursday as a result of the full moon.

According to local sources, a 1 km long river dam built over the Bay of Bengal to the south-east of Govardhanpur entered the non-water area at noon. As a result, hundreds of bighas of agricultural land have been inundated with salt water. Hundreds of houses have been submerged due to the collapse of a river dam south of Govardhanpur. The agricultural land of the pond has sunk.

Due to strong winds blowing at night on this day, there is a danger of further increase in river water. And so naturally the residents of this area are worried. However, the river dam will be repaired when the water recedes, said Deputy Chief Minister Ashish Kumar Barman.

He said that as there was no soil around the river dam, it was not possible to repair it now. However, the river dam will be repaired as soon as the water recedes.
